Today the i paper has run a piece by me on what it’s like to suffer a nervous breakdown.

My aim in writing this essay – and Untie the Lines – is to try to reduce some of the stigma around anxiety, panic attacks and mental health issues.

I found that if you open up about it, you start to discover how many other people have struggled, and knowing that helps both you and them. So if we’re all more honest, it’ll get easier for everyone.

My dad said to me at the time: “If you’d broken your leg, you’d seek help, why is this any different?” So true.

I really hope that being open in this way helps someone else out there, and that they can take strength from knowing that they are not alone in this.
